If you have any of this software already and want to run it, try using a Mac OS emulator such as Basilisk, SheepShaver, or vMac. Without an emulator, almost none of these programs can be run on a current (or any) Intel-based Mac, and some won’t run under OS X, or even System 9.
(Last version unknown.) Purchased by SPSS; Mac version dropped; sold by SPSS; don’t we love SPSS?
68000 only; Last versions 1.32 and III
Cricket Graph 1.32 still works on PowerPC machines via Classic mode. It remains one of the easiest to use graphing programs ever designed, and has extremely fast (even on a Mac Plus!) regression curve fitting that is easy to set up with polynomial designs. Exporting abilities keep Cricket Graph current. A more flexible but slower and less easy-t0-use upgrade, Cricket Graph III, was released shortly after the acquisition by Computer Associates.
Prof. Richard G. Coss wrote: "I use this package all the time using OS 9.0.4 and Mac Classic 9.2.2 emulation running under OSX 10.3.9 (on a PowerPC machine). Cricket Graph III takes about 4 times longer to generate graphs than Cricket 1.3 (about 1 minute to generate a publishable graph which is great for teaching a research lab). I save the file as tiff, eps or jpeg as a paste-in in Canvas."
PowerPC only; Last version was 1.1 (for OS 8.1)

Data Loom is a free data visualization program for multivariate data. It is developed and distributed by Carl Manaster. Its web page has been down for a while but you can get a copy from MacUpdate.
Configurations Available: 68020
Current Version: 2

FloStat provided basic analysis, particularly focusing on survey data. Although not updated in the 21st Century, it is still published by Senecio Software. A web page is provided, and a free demo version is available. The company is best known for its computer-aided survey administration package, MaCATI. FloStat was never especially comprehensive, and there are better modern choices.
Configurations: 68000; 680x0 + FPU; PowerPC native
Current Version: 1.5.5
Price: Shareware, Australian $50
MacCurveFit fits a regression curve to any user defined function using least squares. It was developed by Kevin Raner Software. There is a Windows version that appears to have ceased development at the same time as the Mac version, which is listed as being compatible with System 7 and up but is almost certainly not OS X native. The site says: "MacCurveFit is a scientific least squares curve fitting program. Data sets can be entered into a spreadsheet window, imported from programs like Excel or extracted from text files. Any function may then be fitted to the data and the fit displayed graphically. The functions can be defined by typing them as text and so the program is very flexible. There is also a choice of mathematical algorithms that can be used for curve fitting."
680x0 only; Last version was 3.1d3; free
MacSpin is three-dimensional data visualization program that was the first such program for the Macintosh (and perhaps any personal computer). Developed by the Donoho Design Group and at one point published by Abacus Concepts, it is now available as freeware from Donoho Design Group.
Configurations Available: 680x0 with FPU; PowerPC native
Current Version: Release 10 Xtra

Minitab is a general-purpose statistics package published by Minitab Inc. (+1-814-238-3280; fax: +1-814-238-4383)
In December 1997, a Minitab representative confirmed that “Minitab is not going to continue with the Mac platform. Our current release 11 is not available for Mac and any future releases will not include the Mac platform. Our last software version for the Mac is still available and it is release 10X.” Minitab appears to have lived up to their word with no OS X version. Minitab does not offer any compelling features other than a relatively low price and is not especially popular under Windows, either.
Configurations: PowerPC; may run in Classic.
Final Mac Version: 6.12
Listing updated: 7/2005
SAS is a general-purpose statistics package distributed by SAS Institute Inc. The SAS package (all platforms) has its own newsgroup, comp.soft-sys.sas. Older versions of SAS work with the 680x0 with FPU and may still be available. SAS is supposed to work well in Classic but we have not tested it. SAS has announced that there will be no Mac updates.
Configurations Available: 680x0
Final Version: 4.1
Listing updated: 5/2007
Statistica is apparently still distributed by StatSoft, though it won’t run on any current machine, or for that matter many older ones. The company Web site boasts of “full support” — for System 7, which was replaced by OS 8 in 1997. They still list in their headline a 1995 MacWorld review. Oh, and you can still buy it, apparently - if you request a quote, they'll give you a no-doubt-astronomical price.
Configurations Available: 68000 (Classic)
Final Version: 2.05
Price: Shareware, $25
Listing updated: 5/2007
STATsimple is a shareware statistics package that provides descriptive stats, histogram plot, student’s t-test and linear regression. It was developed by Chris Pereira. A limited-capability version is available for free. The fully functional (i.e., registered) version supports a 25x200 data matrix. Still available in places but the vendor web site is down.
Configurations Available: 680x0; PowerPC native
Final Version: 5.0
Listing updated: 6/2005
StatView was formerly published by Abacus Concepts of Berkeley, Calif., but in September 1997 was acquired by SAS Institute which ignored it for a while and then discontinued support in December 2003. StatView was very fast, provided a large number of statistical operations, and was easy to use, but did not have a macro or syntax language to rerun similar operations quickly. It was similar to SuperANOVA.
Configurations Available: 680x0 (?)
Current Version: ?
Published by Abacus Concepts, which also published StatView. It was discontinued after the purchase of StatView by SAS.
Configurations Available: 680x0, with or without FPU; PowerPC not recommended
Current Version: 5.2.1
This is another casualty of the 800-pound gorilla of statistics, SPSS Inc. Mac development was officially discontinued with version 5, partly due to printing problems on PowerPC processors. SPSS eventually sold MYSTAT and SYSTAT, along with SIGMA, to Cranes of India, which does not sell a Mac version of SYSTAT - which would be a rather difficult development process, especially since, as a former SPSS employee wrote, “most of the developers that helped build the back end are in no way connected with the present company and one would be hard pressed to refer to the documentation the development process as stellar.”
Configurations Available: 680x0 with FPU; PowerPC native
Current Version: 5.6
Price: Free
ViSta is a freeware statistics package developed by Forrest Young of the University of North Carolina. It is still available (thanks, Sherm Garrison!) from this web site but has not apparently been updated since 1999. The source code is available for anyone who wants to bring it into the 21st Century! Unfortunately Forrest Young has passed on, and his partner Pedro Valero tells us that there is only a Windows version now.
